    Another video in the series explaining the truth about Computers, Phones, and Tablets! Today we will talk about operating system updates, whether they are Android, Linux, Windows, or macOS. Do I really need to update my computer? Is it true that there is a commercial agreement with software companies so that with each update my hardware becomes outdated so I have to buy a new one later?

    First of all, updating your operating system is a daily or weekly routine, and you actually need to keep it always updated! There are several factors that require operating system updates, no matter which one it is: Windows, macOS, Android, and even Linux. 

    The need to update the Operating System is due to important factors that you will learn now. Operating systems are created by human beings, and yes, they are not perfect; even the most sophisticated systems require updates because the famous "Bugs" that exist in operating systems need to be fixed!

    🐛"Bugs" are small flaws detected after the operating system is launched, and during daily use, flaws and problems are reported that will be fixed by the developers, and then, in the next operating system update, these "bugs" errors are corrected. 

    Another important factor in updating the Operating System is the "Security Patches," meaning corrections for security flaws discovered over time. These are vulnerabilities through which crackers, viruses, and other malicious code can gain access to your Operating System and cause issues like intrusion, digital data theft, or spying to steal passwords or valuable personal information. 

    This affects Windows much more than MacOS or Linux, but all systems have "Security Patches" being released in their updates. Android, the operating system used in 99% of Smartphones, also needs to be updated, mainly due to the user's exposure when downloading various apps from unknown sources, leaving them more exposed to having their data stolen, especially banking information. 

   🚨 That's why security updates are the most important ones we should do on our system! Updates also serve to promote improvements to the Operating System or software, bringing new features and implementations or improving existing ones, as is the case with Linux or Android! 

   😧 But updates also have their hidden and bad side for the user built-in... They can cause your computer or smartphone to become obsolete over time! This is a truth, as well as a controversy. 

    Because hardware manufacturers always need to sell their modern equipment, boards, and electronic components, updates also serve as a mechanism to force the end-user to "feel the need" to replace their equipment with a new and better one over time! 

    🖳This is true, and they have been doing this to us all the time for years! The most recent case with Windows 11, which requires a TPM Chip on the motherboard, will officially force many users to throw their old equipment in the trash and buy more modern equipment that has the TPM Chip! 

    💻If Microsoft doesn't do this, it won't sell Windows 11 on new computers, because many people would still stay on Windows 10! Not to mention those who still use Windows 7 or XP, or even older ones... Yes, there are still users using D.O.S. systems across Brazil and around the world too. But that's not the focus right now...

    Embedded within the updates is this "hidden" mechanism that makes operating systems slower and heavier, causing the user to have to replace their equipment with a better one in the future. Or otherwise seek an upgrade for their computer, such as adding more RAM, which is the most common case of all!

     Windows is the champion with this technique, and with Windows 11 this issue becomes clearer! Anyone using an old Dual Core, Core 2 Duo computer, or computers without the TPM Chip—and in Brazil, there are many such cases—will have to use Linux or continue to use an old and obsolete Windows system without updates!

    🐧On the other hand, Linux operating systems, for example, do not suffer as much from this hidden obsolescence mechanism! Because Linux is Open Source, there is no "lobbying" with hardware manufacturers to force the sale of new boards and components! 

   🐧 That is why Linux becomes perfect for the market today, for everyone who owns an older computer, such as: Dual Core or Core 2 Duo or FX 6300/FX 8300, or older generation Core i processors without the so-called TPM Chip! 

    Windows already carries this commercial obligation; so that hardware manufacturers can sell their new computers with Windows 11, old computers must disappear from the market—it's a matter of business! The "rule of obsolescence" for equipment is a law in the corporate world!

    If it weren't like that, we would still be using an AT 486 computer with Windows 3.11 or Linux DSL systems out there! Exaggeration? Well, then we could still be using a Core 2 Quad with Windows 7! This is not an exaggeration, it is a reality! With Linux, we can indeed use our Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad normally, and even with better performance than many Core i7 processors with Windows 11 out there! Fact!

    But the industry is commercial, it's private! And Windows is a company; it doesn't make money without selling new computers and a new operating system! Microsoft itself said this in an email giving guidance about Windows 11, that users should look to "recycle their old computers" by acquiring more modern equipment for Windows 11... Lol 😂

    Of course, this is of no interest to the consumer, because spending money all the time to replace your computer with a more modern one is not an option today, especially in the Brazilian market due to the economic crisis, high dollar exchange rate, extremely high import taxes, and everything else! Buying a basic computer for small offices or home office users would cost a fortune! A simple computer for internet access and an Office package with a latest generation TPM chip.... Do the math, my friend!

What is a Embedded Sytem? It is a Linux? Learn all about it!

Embedded System, after all, what is it? Do I have it at home or do I already use some system? Is it Linux? Learn all about it!

    Today we are going to talk about embedded systems or, in technical terms, Embedded Systems! These are the famous systems in which Hardware and Software are dedicated, and one cannot be separated from the other because there is no way for them to function with options other than those designed! 

    They are also systems that execute specific tasks within a set that can be even larger than the embedded system itself, being an integral part of another larger system! 

    The most famous Embedded Systems we can mention for a better understanding are the so-called ECUs that make up all modern cars! 

    ECUs are the brains of cars, and many confuse them with a "simple electronic fuel injection control," but they aren't; they control much more than the engine, bringing together ABS brake control, airbags, sound systems, integration with other electronic control units, and much more! 

    The operating system that runs inside an ECU is not Windows or Mac, but a proprietary system specially designed for it; it can be based on Linux because it is an open-source operating system and can therefore be modified for any other hardware more appropriately! 

    These are called Embedded Linux! Windows cannot be used by the industry for this purpose because it is a proprietary operating system owned by Microsoft and cannot be altered or customized by any other company! 

    That's why they use Linux in embedded systems, as it is the only system that can be easily adapted for any purpose and hardware, without the need to pay royalties to other proprietary companies, since Linux is 100% free open-source! 

    So your car is controlled by a Linux system, and you didn't even know it! Yes, and not just your car, but your motorcycle. And any means of transportation—buses, airplanes, tractors, etc.—that have modern electronic control almost always run Linux! 

    Another example of an embedded system is household appliances such as a microwave oven or a refrigerator that features a Smart Controller! Medical systems such as diagnostic and measurement devices also use embedded systems and likely run Linux! 

    We can therefore consider Smart TVs, TV Boxes, and cellular Smartphones as Embedded Systems too, because they are devices that need to have specific functions, where their software (Android, which is also Linux) needs to be present and modified according to the needs of each device!

     You cannot change the operating system of these devices because they would no longer work! Even being Linux, Android cannot be replaced on these devices by Kubuntu, Mint, Zorin OS, or any other Linux Distro used, for example, on any common X64 computer! 

    That's why every Smart device today, which is theoretically considered an Embedded system, runs Linux systems! We have no way to replace Android with Windows 11! 

    A television, a TV Box, or your cellular Smartphone could not function the same way with Windows 11! It needs Android, and in this case, it cannot be replaced even by another common Linux that we use on computers, as we already mentioned!

     Embedded Systems need their own Software and Operating System already developed and modified/adapted for them! It is not the end-user who chooses the operating system they want, as they can do with their computer today (Linux, Windows, or macOS)! 

    So you already have and use many Embedded systems in your life every single day, and without knowing it, you already use Linux every day indirectly too! 

    You don't know Linux is there, but it is! Totally different from a computer, which requires a keyboard, mouse, and monitor for us to see and interact with the system, the Embedded System runs on its own without user interaction, in the case of Home Appliances/Vehicles and Aircraft! 

    As for medical systems, there is a small amount of interaction with built-in displays and keypads for the user to handle and command small, customized operations and controls! In the case of Smart devices—Smartphone, Smart TV, and TV Box—that run Android, the user can still use a touch screen, keyboard, mouse, or remote control to interact with the system!

      Although in the case of Smart Systems we have applications similar to those we use on computers, they are still different and only run on the Android system! While we cannot run a game or application on a car ECU, but we can on a Smartphone, under the concept of being dedicated hardware running Android, both are considered Embedded Systems; we cannot change their operating systems, and the end-user has no right of choice over this—it is the manufacturer and product engineering that define how it will be and which version of the system it will be!

     The Android that runs on one brand of Smartphone is not the same as the one that runs on another! Many manufacturers customize their device's Android in such a way that it is quite different from "pure Android," making the system even more embedded!
