It also came with Internet Explorer version 4.0, much better than the 1.0 released in the 1995 version. After Windows 3.11, Windows 95 had the exclusive ability to run in Protected mode, accessing instructions of up to 32 bits and up to 4 GB of RAM.
When it separated from MS-DOS, Windows 95 was an independent operating system, although it could still run applications that required MS-DOS directly at any time, since it had ways to run MS-DOS directly through the start menu.
